JACK PARLETT is a writer, poet and critic. He is the author of three books: FIRE ISLAND: LOVE, LOSS AND LIBERATION IN AN AMERICAN PARADISE (Granta/Hanover Square); THE POETICS OF CRUISING: QUEER VISUAL CULTURE FROM WHITMAN TO GRINDR (University of Minnesota Press), an academic monograph, and SAME BLUE, DIFFERENT YOU (Broken Sleep Books), a poetry pamphlet.

FIRE ISLAND was named an Editor’s Pick by the New York Times, one of the Best Books of 2022 by the New Yorker and BBC Culture, and shortlisted for the Polari Book Prize 2023.

His writing has appeared in the New Yorker, Document Journal, Boston Review, Granta, Literary Hub, BBC Culture, Poetry London and elsewhere.

He is currently working on a new non-fiction book about flamboyance, forthcoming from Granta and Hanover Square Press.
